Advanced users • External LEDs on Pi 5

I am trying to connect external LEDs to my Pi 5. For example, I have put dtparam_act_led_gpio=23 and dtparam=act_led_trigger=heartbeat in my /boot/firmware/config.txt. I have connected a LED with an 82 ohm resistor between GPIO 23 (physical pin 16) and ground. The internal LED now blinks in heartbeat mode but the external LED does not light. I've tested the external LED with 3.3v and it does work.
Have I done something wrong or does dtparam=act_led_gpio not work on the Pi 5?
