Also add a 100n to ground on the MCP23017 pin 9.
Okay, thanks! What is the 100n on the MCP23017 GND for?
Replace 5V in the diagram by 3.3V for a RPI.
I'm using 5V for the connected Neopixels. Should I still better use a (separate) power source for the RPI which is 3.3V?

Thank you, I'll have a detailed look, that might be perfect for my planned project since I have rather long wires to some of the switches.
your Neopixel should receive 5V from a dedicated PSU (as you don't state the number of LEDs in use) as they will consume quite some current.
100nF is a decoupling capacitor for the 3.3V supply of the GPIO expander.
